Ella Ellis wanted to play in the NBA before deciding on attending West Point and a forging a career in the military.
Dreams die hard, though, and Ellis did his best to stay active in basketball following his 2013 graduation. He’s played for the All-Army and Armed Forces teams, and participated in a variety of tryouts, workouts and mini-camps with the NBA’s Wizards, Thunder, Rockets and Spurs.
“Definitely there was a worry that I wasn’t competing at the level that I needed to keep my game the same or improve it,’’ Ellis said. “The fact I am in the military, you do think you would get forgotten … but when they hear my name they would remember. It’s a unique situation – it’s not every day a West Point grad tries to make the NBA.’’
